Let's face it, dining out with kids may be a gamble, and your hard-earned money could end up in a whole plate of mac-and-cheese left for the waiters to clear. When kids eat for free, though, you don't have to pay for the food that isn't devoured.

We've put up a handy list of national restaurant chains that provide free kids' meals to help you pick where to take the family for lunch.

Bob Evans

On Tuesdays, Bob Evans hosts Family Day, when you may get a free kid's meal with the purchase of an adult meal. The deal is only available after 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. Macaroni & Cheese, Turkey Lurkey (their term, not ours), and Tic-Tac-Toast are among the children's menu offerings.

I Heart Mac & Cheese

This chain has franchisees in more than a dozen states and provides a variety of macaroni and cheese dishes. While you don't have to be a kid to appreciate this delicacy, kids do receive a special treat on Mondays: free lunches.

IKEA

After you've hauled your kids through IKEA, stop by the IKEA cafeteria before heading home to put your new furniture together. On Wednesdays, all kids' meals are 50% discounted, so have some Swedish meatballs. The offer is only available for members of the IKEA Family and does not include drinks.
