Celine Dion took to Instagram this week to offer some good news: a special gold edition vinyl of her 1998 classic holiday record, These Are Special Times, will be released. The festive LP is the pop icon's 17th studio album.
Many fans commented in Dion's comment area that they were "thrilled" to find that the Grammy winner, 54, is doing well and planning to release new music. Others expressed their "worry" after she cancelled her Las Vegas residency and postponed the North American and European legs of her "Courage" world tour earlier this year owing to her health.
The "My Heart Will Go On" singer first said in October that she needed to postpone her residency in the Nevada city due to "severe and recurrent muscle spasms," which had (understandably) caused her to rest and take time off from performing. Several months later, she disclosed that she would have to cancel all gigs on the North American leg of her tour in January 2022 due to the same reason.
Almost a year has gone since Dion's initial health update, and admirers have expressed concern about her online. Claudette, the musician's sister, told French magazine Voici some weeks after her diagnosis, "What's happening to her is sad." But it's not a significant problem. When something is wrong, Celine always confides in me and seeks my advice. "I know she's in a nice mood."
When the "It's All Coming Back To Me" singer cancelled the North American dates in January, she stated that she expected to be feeling better by then. "I was hoping to be good to go by now," she said, "but I guess I simply have to be more patient and follow the routine that my physicians have prescribed."
Fans were encouraged in April when Dion announced that the European portion of her tour would be delayed. "The good news is that I'm getting better," she added at the time. "But it's going very slowly, and it's quite frustrating for me," she added, admitting to having spasms.
Dion told fans in her first statement that she was postponing her Las Vegas gig until March 22, 2022, due to "unforeseen medical symptoms," but this did not materialise, and the date has not been adjusted, and there is still no word on her plans to perform in Sin City.
"This breaks my heart. "My crew and I have been working on our new show for the past eight months, and not being able to open this November is heartbreaking," she stated earlier this year. "I feel terrible that I'm failing them, and I'm especially sorry for disappointing all the fans who have made plans to visit Las Vegas." Now I have to concentrate on getting healthier... I want to finish this as quickly as possible. – xx Celine."
Dion fans in Europe will be able to see her on stage (finally and gladly) in 2023, since she has announced new dates for her "Courage" tour in Europe. The events will begin on February 24, 2019 in Prague and will tour the continent until October 20, 2023. While it is uncertain when and if North American fans and Las Vegas locals will be able to see a Dion event, many are keeping the vocal powerhouse in their "prayers," as one commented, and "are confident" in the legend's full recovery. Celine, you're doing great!
